Ketamine Therapy in Los Angeles, Burbank, and Las Vegas
Here at Psychiatry Unplugged, we offer Ketamine therapy to alleviate symptoms of Treatment resistant depression and Major Depressive disorder. This drug is known to be used as an anesthetic and also has dissociative and hallucinogenic properties. Ketamine increases the activity of neurons, resulting in neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity is the capacity of the brain to build and restructure synaptic connections, which is especially useful for introducing new behavioral and thinking patterns. Ketamine can be administered a few different ways but not all ways are FDA approved for treatment.
What type of ketamine is given at Psychiatry Unplugged?
We offer Spravato (esKetamine) which is a nasal spray Ketamine. Spravato is FDA approved for treatment and is advantageous for a number of reasons; including the fact that it is the most extensively investigated type of ketamine treatment administration and has also been shown to be the most effective in treating depressive disorders.
How Do I begin ketamine treatment?
Patients interested in ketamine therapy will start with a consultation with our REMS certified physician, Dr. Soroya Bacchus. From there, Dr. Bacchus and her staff begin the procedure in the enrollment process. This process includes, enrolling the patient into the REMS program, verifying insurance benefits, and prescribing the medication for delivery. Once the medication has been delivered the patient will be scheduled to begin treatment. Treatment starts with a 2 hour session twice a week. The spray is delivered nasally as a mist, which the patient inhales. Depending on individual metabolism, this has a very rapid onset and can induce results within minutes.
Is Spravato (esketamine) covered by insurance?

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the Difference Between Esketamine (Spravato) & Ketamine?
Esketamine (Spravato) and Ketamine are closely related but differ in their form, approval status, and how they’re administered. Esketamine is an FDA-approved nasal spray used to treat adults with treatment-resistant depression, always given under medical supervision alongside an oral antidepressant. Ketamine, on the other hand, is typically administered through intravenous infusion in a clinical setting and remains an off-label treatment for depression and related conditions. Both can provide rapid symptom relief, but Esketamine’s FDA approval means it’s sometimes covered by insurance, while Ketamine infusions generally are not.
Ketamine Therapy for Depression: How Does It Work?
Ketamine therapy works by targeting the brain’s glutamate system—the network responsible for mood regulation and neural communication. In people with depression, these pathways can become weakened, but Ketamine helps restore them by promoting new neural connections, often leading to rapid mood improvement. Unlike traditional antidepressants that can take weeks to work, Ketamine’s effects are felt within hours. Treatments are provided in a supervised clinical environment through IV infusions or nasal spray to ensure safety and effectiveness.
