Medication Management

  • Vivitrol: Vivitrol stands out as a monthly extended-release version of naltrexone, an opioid antagonist. This ensures that if you have this medication in your system, any potential relapse is thwarted. It acts as a shield, preventing users from experiencing the highs of opioids. Think of it as your safety net, ensuring your recovery journey remains uninterrupted.
  • Naltrexone, Antabuse, Acomprosate, Bupropion, Trazodone, Seroquel: these medications are designed to counteract the effects of alcohol and opioids. They also alleviate symptoms that might trigger a relapse, such as cravings, insomnia, anxiety, and post-detox depression. These drugs are ideal for both short-term and long-term rehabilitation.
  • Sublocade: Sublocade is a prolonged-release version of buprenorphine, an opioid with blocking properties against narcotic abuse. This allows your brain to recuperate from the detrimental effects of opioids, be it prescription drugs like oxycodone or illicit substances like heroin or fentanyl. Its long-acting nature means you don’t have to remember daily doses, making it a top choice for many.
  • Suboxone: This combined oral medication contains both buprenorphine, an opioid with healing properties, and naloxone, which prevents intoxication or potential overdose. At Psychiatry Unplugged, we consider this drug a cornerstone in opioid addiction treatment.
  • Auvelity, Spravato, Zuranolone: These specialty medications are used to treat mood disorders and are diagnosis specific. They Can be used to treat severe depressive states such as postpartum depression, treatment resistant depression, and major depressive disorder.
  • Depot Antipsychotics (long acting injectables): Disorders like Schizophrenia can be debilitating. Thankfully, medications can help restore normalcy. However, adhering to daily regimens can be challenging. Enter depot medications – these long-acting injectable versions require only monthly administration, often with fewer side effects and easier medication compliance versus missed oral doses. Depot forms for Abilify, Zyprexa, Invega and many others are available in our office. Call us to find out specifically which ones!

Lab and Diagnostic Testing

Psychiatry Unplugged is a fully functional medical office facility, staffed with board-certified psychiatry and addiction medicine physicians and equipped with on-site laboratory services and ancillary supportive staff. We believe in providing a complete picture of care for all mental health concerns as a ‘one-stop clinic’ to address diverse needs.

Blood drugs levels and routine blood tests:

  • Blood drug levels are ordered and performed to make sure medications used are in a range (therapeutic window) for best results. If medication blood levels are too low or high and outside of normal range no benefit or possible harm could result. Drugs where these levels are important are typical with lithium prescriptions and others.
  • Routine blood work assesses general health such as a complete blood count. Particularly important are thyroid function tests and other complete metabolic profiles to rule out treatable causes for mental disorders.

CLIA certified Urine Tests for Safety and Recovery:

  • Medications used for ADHD and other disorders often involve the use of controlled substances that can cause harm beyond their intended effect. Using stimulant medication for ADHD should not be used with other drugs such as marijuana, heavy
alcohol, or tranquilizer types of medication. Drug interactions with these uses can be lethal and cause other mental disorders such as addiction. Also these tests can be helpful with ensuring drug compliance.
  • Urine testing is also useful to help monitor the addiction treatment recovery process. Our patients feel drug testing and accountability is helpful for recovery from addictive substances and a good gauge of recovery response. It also helps in revealing if current recovery treatment is/or is not working and making sure all things for your health are considered from a complete medical perspective.

Care Coordination

We understand that getting medical care may feel overwhelming, and it can be difficult to navigate alone. The wide array of treatment centers, approaches, philosophies, medications, credentials, and professionals can be daunting. Because of the sheer number of choices available, many people just don’t know where to start, which serves as an excuse to never look for treatment. Psychiatry Unplugged serves as your partner and treatment plan liaison. We walk you through the process of building your healthcare team, which should include a psychiatrist and therapist covered by your insurance. No one should put off treatment because of red tape or insurance concerns. We complete paperwork for work, school, or disability leave, and orchestrate patient-present conference calls with family, doctors, or therapists. Additionally, we facilitate insurance calls for medication authorizations, and documentation of treatment for insurance reimbursement, and provide medical justification for higher levels of care (residential or IOP) for insurance reimbursement. You deserve to find your perfect fit in all aspects of coordinated care. We’ll work with you to form a support network tailored to your specific needs – whatever they may be.
